Food and Drink

Why Local?

With more and more people questioning where the food on their plate has come from, how it was produced and what exactly is in it, the popularity of local food and drink has probably never been more widespread . Growing interest in food miles, provenance and media attention focusing on high profile food scares have also helped to fuel this growing trend.

Food and Drink in Suffolk

With its diverse landscapes ranging from the sandy heaths found in the Brecks in the east of the County to the coastline in the west, Suffolk has a rich and diverse food and drink offering.  With some of the best sausages, bacon and ham around, unbeatable fish and award winning wines, a wide range of local food and drink producers can be found across the County.  From smaller and less well known producers through to familiar national and international brands including Adnams , Copella , Greene King and St Peters Brewery.  Other Suffolk delights include Suffolk Gold cheese, Marybelle dairy products, Suffolk Red Poll beef (Suffolk's traditional breed of cattle), Aspall Cyder , Oysters from the Butley-Orford Oysterage , Carter's Vineyard and Shawsgate Vineyard wines, Alder Carr Farm Ice cream, the renowned Newmarket sausage produced by Musks and Powters, extra virgin rapeseed oil produced by Hill Farm, Halesworth, Hadleigh Maid chocolates and wild harvested meat and game from The Wild Meat Company, Saxmundham.
