Suffolk’s second Big Weekend has been hailed a success by event organisers the Choose Suffolk Tourism Partnership with many more people taking up the promotion and a greater number of offers available than last year. Thousands of people from the county and beyond took advantage of multiple free tickets and special offers for visitor attractions, museums, restaurants and hotels, golf and leisure clubs and arts venues.
Aimed at encouraging Suffolk residents to get out and about and explore the wealth of leisure pursuits available in the county, the promotion saw thousands of visitors flock to enjoy a weekend of cut price deals. An underlying message of Suffolk’s Big Weekend was to urge people to take up a new hobby or sport or explore somewhere different in their home county. A dedicated website was created to house all the one hundred special offers and provide an easy shop window for the public to select their deal of choice.
One hundred different value added offers were available embracing historic properties, gardens, theme parks, animal attractions, hotels and restaurants and sports and leisure clubs. Alex Paul, Tourism Manager at Choose Suffolk said: “It has been great to see so many people out and about over the weekend obviously enjoying themselves. Suffolk has so much to offer the Big Weekend is a fantastic reminder of that.”
The National Trust have been keen supporters of Suffolk’s Big Weekend and Regional Marketing Co-ordinator, Jemma Finch explained; “This is a great opportunity to showcase our properties to local residents and support a great county wide tourism initiative.”
